With the incidents of mass school shootings on the rise across America, many parents of school-aged children can only pray that the merchant of death will not arrive for their child as they watch them board the bus from home or skip into class after being dropped off by mom before the first bell.
We find ourselves in truly bizarre and challenging times, there is no doubt about that.
Although prayer is essential for a balanced life, keeping your child safe while attending school might require, along with prayer, some additional steps outside the spiritual world; like an armed adult on campus to address any immediate threats.
In Montana, legislation is already in place that allows each school district to implement and coordinate a School Marshal Program to assist in training up staff, or an outside contractor, to fill the role of a School Resource Officer (SRO), who would be armed and ready to protect the most vulnerable and precious members of society, our children.
Montana legislator and candidate for Montana Public Service Commission Derek Skees introduced the bill, (HB 572) that was later signed by Governor Gianforte, which made the School Marshal Program a law.
In wake of the recent school shootings, NorthWest Liberty News reached out to Representative Skees and invited him on the broadcast to get his thoughts on these mindless tragedies and to explain how his legislation can help to protect Montana children.
