Tucked into the rugged terrain of Northwest Montana, amongst forested hills, open meadows, and steep ridges, sits the quiet mountain town of Thompson Falls. With a total population of around 1600 souls, Thompson Falls is a classic Rocky Mountain transition zone.

The Pine Tree Hollow Homeowners Association (HOA) in Thompson Falls is a small but well-established nonprofit community organization that manages a residential development with a focus on quiet living and senior-friendly amenities. The HOA is designed for residents over 55 and provides landscaping, common area maintenance, road upkeep, and snow removal for a nominal fee.
Since the HOA also has a fully functioning septic system that works perfectly fine, the HOA voted to decline the offer to connect to the aforementioned wastewater system and to just keep what they have. Since the cost to each household comes in at around $5,000, the decision to decline the new system seemed to make the most financial sense; a decision that didn’t go over well with the city.

And, to add insult to injury, the city has threatened to cut off the water supply to the HOA is they do not comply and sign the appropriate documents for Phase 3 of the wastewater project.
I asked AI if cutting off someone’s water supply constituted Domestic Terrorism. You can see the response from AI by clicking here.
